Gill Pelage

I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to discuss any problem or difficulty that is worrying you or making you feel anxious or concerned.

I specialise in providing therapeutic support to clients experiencing

  • life crises
  • crisis of spiritual awakening
  • anxiety and depression
  • domestic violence
  • relationship difficulties
  • abuse, whether emotional or physical
  • issues of difference, diversity, racism and other forms of oppression
  • Integration of meaning in experiences gained from plant medicines

I can also work from a spiritual perspective, if that is important to you.  We can work together with qualities you have and qualities that you might want to develop.

My background

My background is communications and marketing in politics and local government. Following my own personal crisis, I undertook a journey of transformation through psychotherapy. Changing vocation, I decided to devote my life to helping others discover themselves, so they can be the fully functioning person they know they can be.

In addition to my private practice in Camberwell, south London, I have a keen interest in herbal remedies. I’m also a mother and grandmother.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) Link.  I am also listed on the Black and Asian Therapists Network (BAATN) Link.

About Psychotherapy

I create a secure, confidential, and non-judgmental space for you to openly discuss any problems or concerns that are causing you worry, anxiety, or inner conflict.

Through dialogue and exploration of your feelings and emotions surrounding your issues, we can often gain valuable insights into their root causes. This newfound understanding can pave the way for positive changes in your life, fostering a sense of empowerment.

Psychotherapy provides a flexible path to delve into the challenges you’re facing, with no predetermined end. You decide the duration of therapy, which can range from six months to several years of weekly sessions, typically held at the same place and time.

Counselling, on the other hand, offers an opportunity to address specific issues within a defined timeframe, ranging from six sessions to six months of counselling.

Approaches I Use

I’m trained in various therapeutic approaches, adapting to your unique needs. My therapeutic modes include:

  • Existential
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Person-Centred
  • Psycho-dynamic
  • Transpersonal

I am an advocate of Identity Oriented Psycho Trauma (IOPT). IOPT focuses on connecting with your own authentic desires and needs, which can be suppressed over time as we identify more with the desires and needs of others.

Above all, my aim is to gain understanding and empathy for what you’re going through. Talking through the feelings regarding whatever is troubling you can often help reach a better understanding of its possible cause. You may then be able to work towards making changes that will allow you to feel happier and more in charge of your life. Sometimes, simply expressing your thoughts and feelings aloud can be remarkably helpful.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality forms the bedrock of our discussions. It’s a secure, non-judgmental space where you can openly share your challenges and successes.

Who I Work With

I work with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Life crises, such as job loss, work-related stress, or career transitions
  • Relationship difficulties, including marriage or partnership issues and family concerns
  • Bereavement, grief, and sadness
  • Health-related struggles
  • Questions of faith and belief
  • The quest for meaning in life
  • Feelings of loneliness and isolation
  • Domestic violence, trauma, and victim/perpetrator dynamics

Anxiety and Depression

Understanding the underlying causes of anxiety and depression is key to addressing them effectively. Through compassionate inquiry and curiosity, we can work together to unearth the roots of your anxiety and depression, ultimately revealing the path to healing and transformation.

Race and Culture

Being “othered” can manifest in various ways and often originates long before our adult lives. These feelings may have roots in our family of origin or be present in relationships, workplaces, and society at large. I believe that exploring issues related to race and culture is a fertile ground for discovering your unique qualities and embracing your authentic self.

Location

My counselling practice is conveniently located in Camberwell, just a short bus ride away from Elephant & Castle, serving the Northern and Bakerloo line underground stations. It’s also easily accessible from London Bridge, the City of London, and central London.

I offer both face-to-face and online therapy services. During the winter season, when I’m away, I exclusively provide online sessions.
